December 2008: 

- (adapted from official Associated Press news release) Max Shtein received the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE). He was among 67 other scientists and engineers honored at a White House ceremony. The award from the U.S. Office of Science and Technology Policy is the federal government's highest honor to early-career scientists and engineers. Prof. Shtein was being honored for developing novel ways to make the next generation of energy-efficient lighting devices, displays and solar cells.

- Brendan O'Connor receives a Graduate Student Award from the Materials Research Society
- Brendan O'Connor receives a fellowship from the Michigan Memorial Phoenix Energy Institute (MMPEI)


Education:

B.S. in Chemical Engineering, University of California Berkeley, 1998
Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Princeton University, 2004

Research Interests:

Organic semiconductors, organic-inorganic hybrid materials and nanocomposites, crystal growth, photonic and electronic processes, thermal transport, solid-state device design and processing, micro- and nano-fabrication. Devices of interest include transistors, LEDs, solar cells, thermoelectric generators and switches, memories, near-field optical microscopy probes.

The group is currently looking for highly motivated and capable students, post-docs interested in making an impact in the areas of research listed above.
