Chris Cristian :: Associate Desktop Support Specialist

Chris assists in all of the computing needs for the faculty and staff of the department, particularly in the use of Windows and Macintosh operating systems. He also assists in any computing needs for the Van Vlack laboratory and is available to answer any computer related questions or problems. He also administers the departmental backup server, and helps keep departmental machines updated. Chris works half-time, M-F 8-12.

Harald Eberhart :: Master Glassblower

Harald is responsible for all the dept. scientific glassblowing needs. He maintains, repairs and alters glass apparatus, and consults with professors and students on their specific research needs. His equipment permits him to custom fabricate most items that cannot be purchased. He frequently seals metal samples, cuts ceramics, makes electrodes, furnace tubes, and performs a host of other functions that you may require. Quartz and Pyrex glass are his most common medium, but he can also perform some silver soldering and general repairs.

Keith McIntyre :: Senior Facilities Engineer

Keith handles department facilities-related issues. He is responsible for the care and maintenance of department equipment in the metallography, thermal processing, and mechanical testing laboratories; and can offer instruction in the use and care of those items.

Ying Qi :: Senior Research Project Engineer

Ying is in charge of maintenance, service and repair of testing instruments and research equipment including electronics, vacuum systems, computer-based systems, mechanical testing equipment, etc. She help you with your electrical circuitry and electronics problems. She can also assist you to design test instruments to meet your specific research needs. She is also responsible for the operation of the SEM and X-Ray diffraction facilities in room 2105. Anyone wishing to use these facilities must be trained and approved by her before using the equipment. Ying will also be spending a lot of her time in EMAL.

Lloyd Ricketts :: Engineering Technician

Lloyd is here on a part-time basis (3pm-6pm Monday - Friday), and performs general maintenance on lab equipment and other facility related tasks. He also assists other technical staff in their duties.

Justin Scanlon :: Engineering Technician

Justin's main job duties are to organize the materials and machines used for MSE 360 and 365, the undergraduate lab classes. He is also here to assist faculty, staff and students with any of their needs in the Van Vlack laboratories.

Haiping Sun :: Research Electron Microscopist

Haiping specializes in structual and chemical analysis of materials at the nanometer level. He can help you with the problems in thansmission elctron microscopy, X-Ray enery dispersive spectroscopy, electron enery loss spectroscopy, electron diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, environmental scanning electron microscopy, scanned probe microscopy and focused ion beam techniques. He is also responsible for helping to train users to use the equipment in EMAL. If you fee that you need to use the facilities of EMAL, you should contact Haiping or his collegues (John Mansfield and Kai Sun).

Chris is in charge of the Pollock and Jones labs located on the first floor of the Gerstacker building. He specializes in materials processing, process equipment and materials testing equipment. Although primary support goes to the groups located in the Gerstacker Building, he is available to provide advanced support to other areas, particularly with material fabrication methods, lab equipment, mechanical design and control problems.

Kevin Worth :: Senior IT Administrator

Kevin takes care of the network in the MSE department, and maintains all department-owned computers. He runs the MSE web, database, and backup servers. He can also recommend software for research use and specify and purchase new computers and software.
