Jiashi’s research focuses on the ultrasonic fatigue behaviors of the polycrystal nickel-base superalloy (Rene’s 88 DT) at elevated temperature. His work includes: quantitative microstructure and fractography characterization, correlation between microstructure features and fatigue crack initiation and propagation, high temperature ultrasonic fatigue test and statistics aspects of ultrasonic fatigue behaviors. The goal of this research is to explore the great potential of ultrasonic fatigue to study and predict the microstructural failure at very long life and at elevated temperatures. This work also contributes to the understanding of fatigue damage mechanism at low loading stress level. This project is sponsored by AFOSR.
