Education:

B.S., Metallurgical Engineering, Purdue University, 1984.
Ph.D., Materials Science and Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 1989.

Research Interests:

Some of the most interesting challenges in the area of structural materials lie in the development of materials capable of operating at high fractions of their melting point. For example, the performance of aircraft engines, power generation turbines and automotive systems can be substantially advanced with new materials and an improved understanding of their behavior during processing and their properties and performance in service. Our research focuses on alloy design, casting and solidification processing, microstructure development and the mechanical properties of structural materials. Materials systems of interest lightweight Al and Mg alloys, nickel-base superalloys, titanium, intermetallics and composites.
