The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) has selected Jonathan Madison as its 2008 "Graduate Student of the Year" because of his "outstanding professional achievements in the fields of engineering and science." Madison received the award on March 22 during NSBE's Golden Torch Award ceremonies in Orlando, Florida.

Jonathan is also a 2005 MLK Spirit Award winner, one of nine Michigan Engineering students who were recognized for their dedication to building relationships among diverse groups and volunteering on and off campus for activities that help keep Dr. Martin Luther King’s dream alive. Madison’s interests lie in nickel-based superalloys, orientation imaging microscopy, three-dimensional reconstruction of microstructures and micro-scale surface strain displacement mapping with Professor Tresa Pollock.
